 Citizen's Hearing in Charlotte on Cliffside

On Thursday, January 14, in Charlotte , there will be a citizen's hearing on the final air quality permit for Duke Energy’s Cliffside coal-burning power plant, including the new 800 megawatt Unit Six being constructed about 50 miles upwind of the metropolitan area.  The proposed new unit is a source of widespread public concern and opposition as most other new coal-burning plants throughout the nation have been scrapped due to health, economic and environmental liabilities.

 Official DAQ Public Hearing on Cliffside

On January 14th, from 6-9pm EST, an official Division of Air Quality Public Hearing will be held to receive public input on the current air permits for the Cliffside Coal Plant. If you cannot make the Charlotte hearing, please consider making your voice heard at this one. For more information, please visit the official announcement by DAQ.

 Asheville-based protesters lock themselves to generator near Greenville, SC

Four protesters from Asheville were arrested this morning in South Carolina, including two who locked themselves to a 1.5-million pound generator headed for the Cliffside coal-fired plant site in Rutherford County.

 Raleigh March for Climate Leadership

On October 24th, 2009, 150 North Carolinians took to the streets in Raleigh to demand leadership to solve the climate crisis. We need President Obama to negotiate a fair, ambitious, and binding international treaty to reduce emissions. We need Governor Perdue to enforce the Clean Air Act and cancel the pollution permits for Duke Energy's Cliffside coal-fired power plant being built in NC.
