The Message
The Cliffside Climate Action will march to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Building and then on to Duke Energy Headquarters to deliver messages to NC Governor Beverly Perdue and Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers. The focus is on opposition to coal and mountaintop removal and support for a new clean energy economy that will bring green jobs to North Carolina and to the rest of the country. This will be a very well organized and peaceful march. Following in the steps of the successful Capitol Climate Action in early March, we will present ourselves as a mainstream movement and we plan to "dress to impress" the public and the media. All efforts at cooperation are being pursued between local police, civil authorities and the organizers of the Cliffside Climate Action. A peaceful, solemn and moving event that will send a powerful message around the world is anticipated.
You do not have to risk arrest
Please take note that you do not have to risk arrest to be a part of the Cliffside Climate Action on April 20. If you are willing to risk arrest during this action or are still unsure and would like to learn more, we ask that you plan to attend the Non-violent Civil Disobedience Training on Sunday, April 19. You should also bring AT LEAST $100 in cash. Some people, including several celebrities, plan to risk arrest through acts of non-violent civil disobedience, in a symbolic act to show the depth of their commitment toward stopping Cliffside and beginning a new era of responsible energy policies in North Carolina, the United States and the world.
To ensure the safety of all participants, to encourage the broadest and most diverse involvement possible, and to respect the important issues and communities we are supporting, we ask everyone taking part in the Cliffside Climate Action to respect the following agreements:
Legal support will be organized for those in need who adhere to the above nonviolence agreement.
